Pizzaria La Notizia, located way up the hill just past Vomero, wowed us during our first visit to Naples. Now that we’ve made a few more visits, we’re pleased to report that the pizza mecca hasn’t lost its luster.

Enzo Coccia opened the pizzeria in 1994 plus a second location down the block 17 years later. The acclaimed pizzaiola actively ‘holds court’ among the guests who sit ‘cheek to jowl’ in Pizzaria La Notizia’s whimsically decorated dining room.

Coccia’s pizzas are amazing, featuring great Neapolitan pizza dough and some of the finest local ingredients from Campania like bright yellow piennolo tomatoes and strutto, a local lardo. His restaurant also serves show stopping calzones. Eating one is like eating dreamy pocket of goodness filled with sausage and ricotta.

Calzone at Pizzaria La Notizia in Naples

Part of the fun of eating at Pizzaria La Notizia is sitting among the local, stylish (and sometimes besuited) bourgeoisie who happily devour Coccia’s tasty pies while enjoying generous pours of local wine.

We wondered if we would still see Coccia working the room when we returned years after our first visit. Over time, the famous pizzaiola had become even more famous after appearing on international shows like Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.

As it turns out, Coccia was indeed there and his pizzas were just as delicious as we remembered. It was heartening to see the dynamic, energetic pizzaiolo still touching tables and wooing guests.

While we didn’t see Coccia during our third visit, we heard that he was down the hill at his other Naples pizza shop. While we missed seeing his friendly face, we enjoyed our pizza and calzone just as much as we did during our prior meals.

Pro Tips For Eating At Pizzaria La Notizia

If you’ve eaten at other Naples pizzerias, then you know the drill about ordering one pie (or calzone) per person and eating the food with utensils. The same concepts apply at Pizzeria La Notizia.

Make advance online reservations to avoid dining disappointment as well as a long wait. Expect to pay no more than 10 euros per pizza. As always, pizza prices can change at any time without notice.

Also, don’t be surprised if Notizia’s value priced pizzas will rank among your favorite pizzas in Naples. If you order well, they may even top your list.

One last tip – Since it’s a long trek from the center of Naples, take a cab or public transit (metro and bus) to Pizzaria La Notizia. Only crazy people like us would walk from Centro Storico.

Pizzaria La Notizia has two pizzerias in Naples. We’ve eaten multiple times at the original pizzeria located at Via Michelangelo da Caravaggio, 53, 80126 Napoli, Italy.
