We visited the famous cowboy hat lady in Chiang Mai for some amazing Khao Kha Moo, otherwise known as braised pork leg over rice. Check out our video to enjoy the experience with us.

Call her what you want – the “cowboy hat lady” or the “lady in the cowboy hat”. She’s out every night at the Chiang Mai Chang Phuak night market near the Chang Phuak (a/k/a Elephant) Gate, arguably making her a culinary celebrity in Thailand.

Boldly wearing her signature headpiece and wielding a cleaver, she serves up some of the tastiest Thai food you can eat in Chiang Mai for 30 baht or just under a dollar. We’re talking succulent stewed pork leg over rice served with an egg and flavorful sides like pickled mustard greens and garlic chili sauce.

This price could change at any time. However, it would still be a bargain at triple the price.

Khao Kha Moo Chang Phuak is located by the North Gate at Thanon Manee Nop Parat, Amphoe Mueang, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Ate there five years ago and it was simply fantastic. Ate there a few hours ago and really was very impressed at all. Was so looking forward to the Khao Kha Moo but been left feeling very let down.

We're sorry to hear that you didn't have a good meal considering how simple a dish like Kha Moo is. We'll have to check it out again on our next swing through Chiang Mai.

We're still trying to figure out why she wears a cowboy hat. But seriously, the Kha Moo stand in Chiang Mai has to be one of the best street food stands in the world. The food they sell really lives up to the hype!
