Discover what it’s like to eat star-shaped pizza at Pizzeria da Attilio in Naples.

Pizzeria da Attilio serves excellent traditional Neapolitan pies as well as uniquely shaped eight-crimped star pizzas. Those star-shaped pies, which were featured on David Chang’s Ugly Delicious, are no gimmick. Instead, the show-stopping pies are the real deal with each fluffy prong stuffed with luscious ricotta cheese.
The Spanish Quarter pizzeria is a must-visit for pizza fans who make the journey to the city where modern pizza was invented. Bachetti, a third-generation pizzaiolo, runs his family’s pizzeria in a cozy space just off Via Toledo and mere steps from the street’s cavalcade of cafes and gelaterias.

Our Lunch at Pizzeria da Attilio

Pizzeria da Attilio immersed us in its pizza experience the moment we walked through the door. We immediately encountered a large, wood-burning oven where legendary pizzaiolo Attilio Bachetti was hard at work prepping vegetables and shaping the stuffed crust pies that make his pizzeria magical.
Starting our meal with bacetti, little spiral kisses made with pizza dough, ricotta and provola, was a no-brainer. Choosing our pizzas wasn’t so easy.
We considered ordering a Pizza Carnevale pizza with sausage and fior di latte since it’s Attilio’s most famous star-shaped pie. We instead went a different direction by ordering a star-shaped Sale Nel Piatto pizza topped with piennolo tomatoes, fior di latte and porcini mushrooms. We rarely skip porcini mushrooms in Italy when they’re in season. We also ordered a cheese-free Campagnola pizza topped with San Marzano tomatoes, anchovies, capers, olives, garlic and oregano.

Pro Tips for Eating at Pizzeria da Attilio in Naples

Pizzeria da Attilio doesn’t take reservations and its excellent pizzas are surprisingly affordable. Accordingly, go early to avoid a potentially long wait. And, obviously, go hungry since you’ll want to start your meal with bacetti and maybe potato croquettes too.
If you’re dining with a partner, consider ordering a standard pie in addition to a star-shaped pie for the full Pizzeria da Attilio experience. With more than two dozen pizza options, narrowing the choices can be a challenge. If you can’t decide, consider ordering a star-shaped Pizza Attilio, which has nine unique slices.
Be warned that you’ll want to eat every morsel of Attilio’s crust. That’s what we did with zero regrets.
Pizzeria da Attilio is located at Via Pignasecca, 17, 80134 Napoli, Italy.
