About The 2foodtrippers

Hello! We’re Daryl and Mindi Hirsch a/k/a the 2foodtrippers.

We started the 2foodtrippers website in 2012 as a forum for sharing our best culinary discoveries. At tht time, we were living and working in Philadelphia. Today, we’re full time content creators who are always in search of our next great meal.

When we travel, we eat it all from street food to haute cuisine and everything in between. When we’re not traveling, we travel vicariously by crafting global cocktails, eating out at Lisbon restaurants and cooking at home.

Since starting the award-winning 2foodtrippers site in 2012, we’ve collaborated with numerous partners including tourism boards, hotels, restaurants and major online travel brands. You can see many of our wonderful partners below.

Our travels have taken us around the world. We took this photo in Tallinn. Notice anything different? | Image: ©2foodtrippers

Prior to 2016, 2foodtrippers was a hobby.

Daryl was an accomplished musician and worked for a high-end, celebrity chef-driven restaurant group based in Philadelphia. When he wasn’t performing at local clubs and weddings, he handled many of the restaurant group’s logistics. He also assisted with restaurant openings and special projects like the Food Network’s Iron Chef tv show. He occasionally wielded a knife or two on the job as well.

Meanwhile, Mindi earned an MBA and various professional designations while living in Atlanta, San Francisco, New York City, Denver and finally Philadelphia. She worked as an executive in the insurance industry and developed keen business skills including project management, contract review and managing others. This career gave her the opportunity to develop and hone keen writing and presentation skills.

Together, we worked on the 2foodtrippers site in our spare time and took short trips to destinations like France, Japan and Italy. It was fun but we wanted to do more.

Everything changed in 2016.

With a giant leap of faith, we left our careers and Philadelphia home to hit the road on an ongoing quest for the world’s best food and culinary experiences. This leap has enabled us to transition the 2foodtrippers site into a viable business and provide actionable resources for like-minded people who love to eat when they travel.

It was a good move. We’ve won two prestigious awards – Saveur Magazine’s editor’s prize for Best Travel Blog and TBC Asia’s gold prize for Best Food Blog. However, we’ve now exchanged the nomadic life for our current Lisbon home base. As it turns out, three years on the road was our limit.

We now travel slowly and create comprehensive Food Travel Guides to help travelers find the best food, coffee, wine and beer in cities around the world. But that’s not all…

We’re now flexing our culinary muscles at home by cooking tasty dishes and crafting equally tasty cocktails. This is nothing new for Daryl as he’s been cooking for decades. However, he’s now expanded his repertoire to include Asian food which is his true kitchen passion. It’s a different story for Mindi. She discovered the art of mixology during the 2020 pandemic and is now a cocktail enthusiast with 100+ cocktails under her belt.

Many would say that we’re living our dream and we don’t disagree.

How We Met

Head Shot in Germany
We like to drink when we travel. When we’re in Germany, beer is our beverage of choice. | Image: ©2foodtrippers

We met in 2006 at an Oscars party hosted by mutual friends in Philadelphia. It was a very successful party for both of us – Mindi won the Oscars pool and we both found true love.

It wasn’t long until we realized our mutual obsession for food and travel. We got married in 2007 and haven’t looked back since.

Really love your blog... There seems to be one area missing: Belgium ? I am of course biased, as I am Belgian. But when it comes to food and drinks Belgium is definitely worthwhile... We are the best source for chocolates, waffles, beer, mussels... and don't forget, we actually invented French fries... Combine this with our history... Ghent and Bruges were the 2d and 3d largest cities in Europe (above the Alps) in the Middle Ages...

Kind regards,

Philippe a proud Flemish guy from Ghent

We've spent some short stints in both Bruges and Ghent but, per your request, will place Belgium high in our future plans (once this COVID madness ends.) We love your beer, we love your frites and we love your mussels.

Thanks for the pertinent reminder!!

Great to find two such lovely smiles and obvious joie de vivre! Found you via the post on Neapolitan coffee. Left a comment there, BTW. I'm an archaeologist, & jump at the chance to eat local where ever a conference takes me. Recommendation: check out the best shortbread on the planet (well, maybe tied with Bretagne) at ARGOs Bakery in Kirkwall, Orkney Islands. Also, along the waterfront in little Kirkwall, with your backs to the sea, there are three hotels with dining. The one on the far left has a finnan haddie chowder called Cullen Skink [sic] that is to die for. The hotel on the far right has terrible food: they served me sliced haggis out of a can that was the worst. (it was great every other place I had it in Scotland). Also you'll get a kick out of the fact that the sign on the little Kirkwall airport building is in Viking runes. Bon voyage, you two!

Thanks so much! Those places are definitely on our travel list and Daryl loves shortbread and hates canned haggis.
